Abstract

This study analyzes the differences in learning outcomes between students who work (MB) and those who do not work (MTB) in Mathematics 2, as part of the Mechanical Engineering Study Program at Buana Perjuangan University in Karawang. The present study employed a quantitative approach, utilizing a posttest-only design. The sample population comprised 40 students, with 20 assigned to the MB group and 20 to the MTB group. The research instrument employed was a midterm examination question. The results of the descriptive analysis demonstrated that MB exhibited an average score of 71.10, which surpassed the average score of 66.60 achieved by MTB. The normality test indicated that the distribution of the MTB group was consistent with a normal distribution. Consequently, a difference test was conducted using the Mann-Whitney U test, yielding a significance result of 0.039 (<0.05), thereby indicating a significant difference between the two groups. This finding suggests that employment status may positively influence learning outcomes. It has been demonstrated that individuals with a background in business management tend to exhibit superior time management skills, discipline, and motivation to learn. This study posits the necessity of an educational approach that is tailored to the characteristics of working students, with the objective of facilitating optimal academic achievement.
